Time for Art!

This is the day I have been looking forward to my entire life.  I have completed my 30 year career in technology and now it's time to work on my life's passion... my art.  With the move to Silverton, Oregon, I have a suitable studio and we have an amazing shop equipped with equipment we have amassed in our lives and now.. before the body starts to fail me... before I lose hand strength and whatever else that aging brings, I get to be 100% unbridled in my art making.  I can take my time, relax, and make those ambitious projects because I have the time. Life is good.

The next couple months I'll be preparing for my show at Lunaria in June.  I'm so excited to imagine and create new work.

Orbs, Hearts, and other Exciting Studio Happenings

PictureReassembled, 16"x10"x4" Mosaic on Concrete, January 2025

So with a month off, there's been lots of time in the studio.  It's been AMAZING. For far too long, I’ve balanced a full-time career in technology with my art, often relegating my creative pursuits and contributions to the art community to “as time permits.” I cannot wait to flip this paradigm so that I can finally pursue my life's passion. I'm looking forward to less stress and less responsibility.  Please don't misinterpret - I have no regrets. My career in technology has been good to me.  It has afforded me a very fortunate life but now it's time for less stress, and more art.

I have lost some friends/colleagues in the past couple of years who were FAR too young and it has been a point of reflection for me.  This life... it's not promised. As you age, it's no longer about the money... it becomes about the time. Time you'll never get back. Time that is precious. Time that is yours.

Cynthia Herron awards "Notes in Neon" 'Best Use of Unconventional Materials' in Something Red Show
Watch what she has to say about the piece in the below YouTube video
(17:41) Transcript
"The award for Best Use of Unconventional Materials hands down goes to Anne Pinkowski for "Notes in Neon" which is this work on
top here. She has two other works that are equally intriguing and created with found objects as this one is. It's found
objects with neon but this one again blew me away because of the compositional structure intersects with her concept,  intersects with the handling of the materials and the strength of the the message just comes out - and that would be open to anybody's own personal interpretation.  I love the use the combination of the the line and the neon and the piano keys and wondering where it all came from and just having it be so intriguing. So congratulations to Anne for her unconventional use of materials."

Glass Ceiling is on display at Lunaria!

As a woman who has spent the majority of her career working in technology, the glass ceiling is real.  I’ve encountered challenges in my career.  In this sculpture, the glass sphere symbolizes the "glass ceiling" in various metaphorical ways. The female figure inside the sphere, with her poised and graceful stance, signifies all women striving to break through these invisible boundaries, reaching upward with the world in her hands. The delicate nature of the glass sphere could be a nod to the fragility of those boundaries—implying they can be shattered with the right force, perseverance, or change in perception.

Homage to a Mentor and Amazing Artist

Rest in peace Christian Schiess
May you light heaven up like the Vegas Strip with your magnificent neon sculptures.
I am feeling emotional as I tidy my studio. I got word yesterday that an amazing mentor has passed away. This man taught me how to make neon and I got good enough at the craft that he invited me to exhibit with him at the K Gallery in 2021, twenty one years after I took my first class with him.

We were very different people. I embraced imperfections and he loathed them. I would ask him to bombard a piece and he would look at it wrinkling up his nose while asking me… “Do you want to tighten this up?” I replied, “No, then people will know I made it and not you.” He was a perfectionist but he laughed at my response and best of all he accepted ME for me. We developed a friendship and mutual respect for each other.

After losing my other amazing mentor Henry Hopkins in 2009, it’s bittersweet. It reminds me how important it is to teach - to pass the torch on that these amazing men each once passed to me. There just simply isn’t enough time.

I am incredibly happy that my husband's short film was accepted into the Silver Falls Film Festival hosted by the Silverton Arts Association!

Way to go Dave! It was so beautiful to see the crowd's reaction.  Well done! But don't take my word for it! Watch it yourself!

    About me...

I work in the IT industry by day managing a team of software developers. I very much enjoy what I do. Technology changes as quickly as it gets boring so this career is suited perfectly for me.

If I were to answer the question, "What would you do if you won the lottery?" My answer is not something I waver on. I would make my art (and go on object finding missions) all day long.

I've changed careers. I moved from place to place. People have drifted in an out of my life. Art is my constant - like breathing really, but I don't really have the choice to not breathe! :)
